16-06-2023 wotc The Ring gains its abilities in order from top to bottom. Once it gains an ability, it has that ability for the rest of the game.

However, if you do choose a target, and that target is illegal at the time the ability tries to resolve, the ability won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. The Ring won't tempt you.
